Privacy and cookies

The short version: if you subscribe, I keep your email address to send you Trailblazers, and nothing else. I don't sell it, share it or use it for anything else. Reading the site needs no account, and the only cookies are those of the market chart and videos, and only if you allow them.

~/privacy $ whoami

Trailblazers. The Space Newsletter is written and published by Francois Paul Lambert, who decides how your data is used (the “controller”). Contact: privacy [at] jointrailblazers [dot] space. Postal address: 97 Coogee Bay Rd, Coogee NSW 2034, Australia.

~/privacy $ ls ./collected

If you subscribe: your email address; the date you subscribed and confirmed; which issues were sent to you, and whether an email bounced or you unsubscribed. Open and click counts are kept as totals per issue, not per reader.

If you just read the site: anonymous page-view and page-speed statistics (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights). They use no cookies and don't identify you.

If you email me: your message and address, to reply.

~/privacy $ cat ./why

The newsletter is sent on the basis of your consent, given when you subscribe and confirm your address (double opt-in). You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.

After you unsubscribe or an address bounces, I keep that address on a do-not-email list, only so it is never emailed again. Anonymous site statistics rely on my legitimate interest in knowing what readers find useful.

~/privacy $ ls ./processors
  • listmonk (open-source software I run myself) keeps the subscriber list, on a server rented from Hostinger in Malaysia. Hostinger's data processing agreement includes the European Commission's standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the EEA.
  • Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES, Ireland) delivers the emails.
  • Vercel hosts this website and provides the anonymous statistics. It may process data in the United States under its data processing terms.
  • Cloudflare runs this domain's DNS and forwards email sent to my address.
  • beehiiv held the list until the move to listmonk in late 2026; once the move is complete the beehiiv account is closed.
  • TradingView and YouTube (Google) only if you allow cookies for the market chart and videos (see below).

Encrypted backups of the list are kept in Amazon S3 (Ireland) for 35 days.

~/privacy $ cat ./how-long

Your address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. After that it is kept only on the do-not-email list. Backups age out within 35 days.

~/privacy $ man ./your-rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to its use, by emailing privacy [at] jointrailblazers [dot] space. I answer within a month. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the one where you live; in Ireland that is the Data Protection Commission, in Australia the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

~/privacy $ ls ./cookies

No cookies of my own. The site keeps three small items in your browser, none of them used to track you:

  • a note that the subscribe pop-up has been shown, so it doesn't keep coming back;
  • your answer to the cookie banner;
  • the random call-sign in the terminal prompts, kept only until you close the tab.

The market chart and videos. The #MARKETWATCH live chart is TradingView's, and some issues include YouTube videos. Both set their own cookies when they load: TradingView under its privacy policy, YouTube under Google's. On your first visit a banner asks whether to allow them; “No thanks” is as easy as “Allow cookies”. If you allow them, the chart and videos load by themselves from then on. If you don't, nothing from TradingView or YouTube loads and each one shows a placeholder instead. You can change your answer here at any time; withdrawing stops them loading, and cookies they already set can be cleared in your browser settings.
